Reactivity can be very stressful for both you and your dog. Having a dog that snaps, growls, and explodes at other dogs or people can make them hard to be around and manage. Most people don’t know how to help their reactive dog so they start managing them by limiting their exposure to people, dogs, and other triggers. As a result, the dog’s world (and often the owner’s world) becomes very small. Our goal is to help your dog learn the coping skills they need to deal with every-day stressors and to give you the skills to help your dog thrive.
All severe reactivity cases require a 30-minute evaluation. During this evaluation you will be asked various questions about your dog’s reactivity and daily life. You may be asked to send a video of the behavior via email.
This evaluation is to ensure that I can safely work with your dog and will allow me to make a game-plan for how we will approach your dog’s reactivity. This will include discussing what program best suits your dog, owner responsibility, any safety concerns, and any lifestyle changes that you may need to make in order to best help your dog.
Reactivity cases most often end up in my 3 week board and train program. However, the layout of the training program is heavily dependent on what your dog is struggling with and your needs as the owner.
Reactivity can often look similar to aggression, so if you are not sure what the difference is I am still happy to evaluate your dog. However, I do not work with aggressive dogs. If your dog is aggressive I will refer you to trainers in the area who may be able to help you.
